What is VET?

A practical and skill-oriented education option in Australia. VET stands for vocational education and training, and it is also called ‘Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET)’ and ‘skills training’. The main provider of VET in Australia is TAFE (Technical and Further Education).

You can choose from a range of VET courses in areas such as:

How you will learn?

VET courses are hands-on and skills-focused, and many study areas involve work placements or workplace-based learning. VET courses are nationally accredited and are developed and delivered by industry experts. You can study VET courses at:

  • government-owned technical and further education (TAFE) institutes
  • independent registered training providers (RTOs), or
  • dual sector universities that offer both VET and higher education programs.
